’14  Smart Hub Soccer

About this project

In 2013-2014, the representative UI of Samsung Smart TV had been made up of a few panels. One of them was “Soccer panel” and this was serviced only for Latin America which was held 2014 Brazil World Cup.

“Soccer panel” is a soccer-related service that allows the user to view soccer information on a smart TV. It consists of five sub-categories – Videos, News, Matchups, Ranking, and Edit Teams. Before a soccer match, the user can go to the appropriate panel and view news and videos about the match. After the end of the match or if the user missed the match, the user can check the match results using the Matchups category. The user can check league rankings of the team he/she is rooting for by accessing the Ranking category. The user can set several preferred teams for content filtering on the panel.

Consumers are accustomed to accessing sports information by visiting portal sites or sports websites. However, they have never experienced a sports UI that is provided in a layout that is optimal for TVs. Our design team analyzed TV-viewing patterns of users before, during, and after soccer matches to feature a UI that is optimized for TVs. Many users want to view highlights and news about a previous match before and after a soccer game. After a game, they want to check the game stats. We also enabled users to better enjoy soccer on the TV by having them set preferred teams. “Soccer panel” was designed by fully reflecting user needs. It can later be expanded into a “Sports Panel”, going beyond soccer.
